In the Pines Studio presents a monthly film series in partnership with CREATE Portage County, screening classic and indie cinema. Join filmmaker Matthew A. Brown and actress Winter Williams in their studio's dark, vintage setting, and experience an eclectic mix of iconic studio films made before 1930, Retro/Vintage formats and thought-provoking independent cinema.

Join Cinema In The Pines and the Wisconsin Computer Club for a unique movie viewing experience on Saturday, March 8th! Our presentation of "Star Wars: A New Hope" will be played on a laserdisc, a long defunct home video format that utilized specialized vinyl disks to play movies. The LaserDisc (LD) was the first optical disc format for consumers, introduced in 1978 by MCA DiscoVision. It was a 12-inch analog disc that stored audio and video data as pits on the surface, read by a laser beam. LaserDiscs offered higher quality video and audio than VHS tapes, and could store more data. They were also known as DiscoVision and LaserVision. LaserDiscs were more popular in Japan and among cinephiles, reaching their peak in the 1990s.

This screening will be unique and educational and great for kids too! Come learn about this obsolete media form. The disc will be projected onto our big screen. Alex Macomber (President of the Wisconsin Computer Club) will be there to talk about how it all works and a little history of it.

Please Note: Cinema in the Pines is now a members only club. By signing up for a free membership, you will be able to RSVP and be put on their private mailing list with information regarding all upcoming screenings, classes, workshops and gatherings. Please sign up on on their website.
